Conclusion

Two methods of dividing the splenic vein were compared in this study that included 316 procedures. There was no difference in the rate of pancreatic fistula between the methods (28.6 per cent combined, versus 27.1 per cent separate), and it was concluded the splenic vein could safely be divided within the pancreatic parenchyma, without being dissected out and isolated.
