Conclusion

A total of 140 laparoscopic right colectomy procedures were randomized. The two types of anastomosis took similar times to construct, and there were no intraoperative complications. The primary endpoint, duration of hospital stay, was similar between the groups, but bowel function (flatus) recovered more quickly after intracorporeal anastomosis (two versus three days, P=0.003).
