Conclusion

Short-term reductions in quality of life were less pronounced in the group who had minimally invasive surgery, particularly in role functioning (P=0.04) and social functioning (P=0.0003). Differences persisted for up to two years, possibly because of fewer complications after minimally invasive surgery.
