The patient had a 21-cm phyllodes tumour. This was treated by mastectomy, with clear surgical margins achieved. First described by Johan Muller in 1838 as cystosarcoma phyllodes, the term phyllodes describes the leaf-like projection of the stroma into cystic spaces while sarcoma refers to the fleshy consistency of the tumour.
